Delicious and nutritious Apple Pie Protein Balls that combine the classic flavors of apple pie with a protein-packed, no-bake snack perfect for quick energy and muscle recovery.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ½ cup vanilla protein powder (whey or plant-based)
  • ½ cup dried apples, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ¼ cup almond butter
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 12 tbsp unsweetened applesauce (as needed for texture)

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, stir together oats, protein powder, chopped dried apples, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until evenly combined.
  2. Add wet ingredients: Add almond butter, maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon of unsweetened applesauce to the dry mixture. Mix well with a spatula until the ingredients come together into a sticky dough. If the mixture seems too dry, add the second tablespoon of applesauce to reach desired consistency.
  3. Roll into balls: Using your hands or a cookie scoop, shape the mixture into 1-inch balls. Place each ball on a parchment-lined tray or plate to keep them from sticking.
  4. Chill (optional): You can enjoy the protein balls immediately, but chilling them in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes helps them firm up and enhances the flavors.

Notes

  • Use either whey or plant-based vanilla protein powder depending on your dietary preference.
  • Unsweetened applesauce controls added sugar; feel free to adjust amount for desired texture.
  • Store protein balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
  • For a nut-free version, substitute almond butter with sunflower seed butter and walnuts with pumpkin seeds.
  • These balls make an excellent pre- or post-workout snack due to balanced macronutrients.
