Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Cinnamon Swirl Mixture

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside to ensure the bread doesn’t stick after baking.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas, melted butter, granulated sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well incorporated.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agent and seasonings.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet banana mixture, stirring gently just until combined. Be careful not to overmix to keep the bread tender.
  5. Prepare Cinnamon Swirl: In a small bowl, mix the ground cinnamon with the brown sugar. This mixture will create the delicious cinnamon swirl throughout the bread.
  6. Layer Batter and Cinnamon Swirl: Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Evenly sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the surface.
  7. Swirl the Mixture: Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the cinnamon sugar through the batter to create a marbled effect, distributing the flavor throughout the loaf.
  8. Bake: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 60 to 70 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean. If the bread browns too quickly, tent with foil to prevent burning.
  9. Cool the Bread: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing, allowing the flavors to set and making slicing easier.

Notes

  • For extra moist bread, use very ripe bananas with brown spots.
  • You can add 1/2 cup chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans for added texture.
  • Store the banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Freeze leftovers by wrapping tightly in plastic wrap and foil; thaw at room temperature.
  • To enhance the cinnamon flavor, you may add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves to the cinnamon swirl mixture.
