Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables & Seasoning

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning

Liquids & Dairy

  • 1 cup seafood stock (or chicken stock)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or substitute with coconut milk for a lighter version)

Seafood

  • 1 cup cooked crab meat
  • 1 cup cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined

Seasoning & Garnish

  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Sauté the vegetables: In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, celery, and carrot. Cook until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  2. Add seasoning: Stir in the Old Bay seasoning and cook for another minute to release the spices’ aroma into the vegetable base.
  3. Simmer the stock: Pour in the seafood stock and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Let it cook for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together perfectly.
  4. Add the cream: Reduce the heat to low and slowly stir in the heavy cream, ensuring it blends smoothly without curdling, creating a luxurious, creamy texture.
  5. Add seafood and season: Gently fold in the cooked crab meat and shrimp. Cook until the seafood is heated through, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper to your taste.
  6. Serve: Ladle the bisque into bowls and garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Serve hot to enjoy the rich, comforting flavors.

Notes

  • For a lighter bisque, substitute heavy cream with coconut milk.
  • If seafood stock is unavailable, chicken stock can be used as an alternative.
  • Old Bay seasoning adds authentic seafood flavor but adjust according to your spice preference.
  • Make sure cooked seafood is added at the end to prevent overcooking and maintain tenderness.
  • Leftover bisque can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated gently on the stove.
