Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Base

  • 8 ounces goat cheese (softened to room temperature)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened to room temperature)

Spread Layer

  • 1/2 cup fig jam
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

Toppings

  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts, almonds, or pistachios)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme and rosemary, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the spread.
  2. Mix the cheeses: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened goat cheese and cream cheese until smooth and well blended. Spread the cheese mixture evenly into the bottom of an oven-safe baking dish.
  3. Layer the fig jam: Spread the fig jam evenly over the cheese layer, ensuring full coverage.
  4. Add balsamic vinegar: Drizzle the balsamic vinegar evenly over the fig jam layer for added tang and depth of flavor.
  5. Bake the spread: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the fig jam is bubbling and hot.
  6. Toast the nuts: While the spread is baking, toast the chopped pecans in a dry pan over medium heat until they become fragrant and slightly browned, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Finish and garnish: Remove the baked spread from the oven, sprinkle the fresh chopped thyme and rosemary over the top along with the toasted pecans.
  8. Serve: Let the spread cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature with crostini, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • You can substitute the pecans with walnuts, almonds, or pistachios based on your preference.
  • Ensure cheeses are softened to room temperature for a smooth spread.
  • For a dairy-free option, use vegan cream cheese and goat cheese alternatives and ensure fig jam is vegan.
  • This spread is best served fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 2 days; reheat gently before serving.
  • Fresh herbs can be adjusted or omitted according to taste.
