These flavorful Chicken Koftas are tender ground chicken meatballs seasoned with aromatic spices, fresh herbs, and grilled to perfection. Served with a tangy garlic yogurt sauce, they make a delicious and healthy appetizer or main dish with Middle Eastern flair.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Koftas

  • 500 grams ground chicken
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for grilling)

For the Garlic Yogurt Sauce

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Kofta Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, ground cumin, ground coriander, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Shape the Koftas: Using your hands, form the mixture into small oval-shaped koftas, ensuring they are compact to hold their shape during grilling.
  3. Preheat the Grill and Oil It: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking and to add flavor.
  4. Grill the Koftas: Place the koftas on the preheated grill and cook for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. They should be cooked through and have nice grill marks.
  5. Make the Garlic Yogurt Sauce: In a separate bowl, mix together the plain yogurt, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a pinch of salt until smooth. This sauce provides a cool and tangy complement to the grilled koftas.
  6. Serve: Plate the grilled chicken koftas alongside the garlic yogurt sauce and enjoy immediately while hot.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a grill, you can cook the koftas on a stovetop grill pan or under a broiler.
  • For more flavor, let the kofta mixture rest for 30 minutes before grilling to allow the spices to meld.
  • Serve koftas with pita bread and a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • Adjust spice levels according to taste by adding chili flakes or cayenne pepper if desired.
