Delicious and flaky spinach and feta puff pastry twists, perfect as a savory snack or appetizer. These golden twists feature a creamy blend of spinach, feta, and cream cheese, infused with garlic and oregano, all wrapped in buttery puff pastry.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)

Filling

  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped (or frozen, thoroughly drained)
  • ½ cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • ¼ cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Finishing

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Spinach Filling: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the spinach and cook until wilted or until moisture evaporates if using frozen spinach. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely.
  2. Mix the Cheese Blend: In a bowl, combine the cooked spinach, crumbled feta, softened cream cheese, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until the mixture is well blended and smooth.
  3. Assemble the Twists: Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Spread the spinach and cheese mixture evenly over one half of the pastry sheet. Fold the other half of the sheet over the filling to create a rectangle. Gently press down the edges to seal the filling inside.
  4. Cut & Twist: Cut the folded pastry into 1-inch wide strips. Holding each strip at both ends, gently twist it several times to form a spiral. Lay each twisted strip onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.
  5. Egg Wash & Bake: Brush each puff pastry twist with the beaten egg to give a glossy, golden finish. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 20 minutes or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, thaw the puff pastry sheet completely before using.
  • Make sure to drain frozen spinach well to avoid soggy pastry.
  • Feel free to add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling for extra warmth.
  • These twists are best served fresh but can be reheated in a toaster oven.
  • Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the pastry strips cleanly.
